Publisher's summary

“Don’t go in the guest bedroom.” A shadow falls on Douglas Garrick’s face as he touches the door with his fingertips. “My wife...she’s very ill.” As he continues showing me their incredible penthouse apartment, I have a terrible feeling about the woman behind closed doors. But I can’t risk losing this job—not if I want to keep my darkest secret safe....

It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want.

It’s almost perfect. But I still haven’t met Mrs Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom. I’m sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood around the neck of her white nightgowns when I’m doing laundry. And one day I can’t help but knock on the door. When it gently swings open, what I see inside changes everything....

That’s when I make a promise. After all, I’ve done this before. I can protect Mrs. Garrick while keeping my own secrets locked up safe.

Douglas Garrick has done wrong. He is going to pay. It’s simply a question of how far I’m willing to go....

Anyone who loves The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose, The Woman in the Window, and Gone Girl will be totally hooked! This book can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

IDK…

This novel is simply ok to me. Definitely not as good as the first novel. The narrator mispronounces the most basic words and it’s ridiculous. I noticed this in the first novel but overlooked it because I really enjoyed the first one. Now that I’m not enjoying this novel her many mispronunciations is blatantly obvious. She also sounds a little to old to be the voice of Millie.

The story itself is rather boring. I don’t know how many times we have to hear about Millie and her boyfriend or his lavish apartment or her basic apartment. I was also tired of hearing about how skinny and frail Wendy is. Ok we get it. I highly recommend the first novel. I do not recommend this one.

I was hoping the second book would be better than the first. Not the case.

I could have guessed, within the first few minutes, that this wasn’t any different than the previous book. I was hoping it would have been better.
She needs to get a different narrator and up her game.

Had to stop halfway

The narrator is talented but the accent got to me a lot worse than the first book. Her saying Mazda was too much, it made me have to return it. Does anyone else have a hard time getting the crazy sister from “So I Married An Axe Murderer” out of their head? I just couldn’t buy that Millie was so attractive that she is having to fend of a constant slew of perverts and stalkers while also juggling gorgeous men that want her. The voice is just too jarring. This storyline was way too far fetched for me. Frieda McFaddin is a great writer, but this just fell flat.

Recycled & Remixed

The Housemaid's Secret by Freida McFadden
The Housemaid #2
9h 44m narrated by Lauryn Allman pages 318

Genre: Mystery Thriller, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Adult Fiction, Crime Thriller

Featuring: New York; Cleaning, Craziness, Mistreatment, Violence, Money Problems, Secrets

Rating as a movie: R for adult content

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½

My thoughts: 📱63% 6:09:01 Ch. 47 - What in the recycled format is this? I was kind of bored with this story but I was going to praise it for originality until I found myself back in book one. I should have known this was gonna be a remix script with a different cast.
📱85% 8:19:07 Ch. 64 - Better I guess, I can see the ending. I'll finish this after bedtime.

The fourth part saved this book. It was better than okay. I liked the first book more so I was surprised they got the same rating.

Recommend to others?: Sure. It's not an amazing story but it's not bad.

Just ok

Kind of entertaining and a quick read. I had a problem with the narrator. The New York accent was a bit over done and some of the pronunciations of words were weird to me and I’m a native New Yorker. Albany pronounced Al benee?? No it’s All benee. That one was annoying🥴

The housemaid

The housemaid was one of my first books by Freida McFadden. I’ve read many of her other books but this series is my favorite. I absolutely loved it!

Should have quit with the 1st one

I enjoyed listening to The Housemaid (the first one) in spite of the narrator's shortcomings, and I wonder if I would have enjoyed this one more if I hadn't heard the first one. There are several comments I would like to make about the mistakes of the protagonist, but I'm afraid they'd be spoilers. Suffice it to say that after the first one, and her experiences since the first one, there were a lot of things she shouldn't have done in this one. Too many rookie mistakes for someone who wasn't a rookie, and way too much inner dialog.
But maybe more than anything, the narration bothered me even more than the first book. Too many times she seems to forget which character she's reading, terrible mispronunciation of several words, and worst of all... how do we picture a pretty young woman who sounds just like Rhea Perlman?? It was just too annoying this time. If there's a 3rd book, I'll probably skip it.

Disappointed

Very flat story. Random characters with not necessary meaning. Very predictable and unnecessary events. Too much fillers

Great Book! Perfect Narrator!

I really enjoyed this book. Millie continues her adventures with lots of twists and turns.
The narrator is the perfect voice for Millie to tell the story through.

Good but distracting narration

I liked this better than the first one. Interesting twists. The narration was a little distracting. The pronunciation of Hyundai was ridiculous lol! Overall, good read!
