Publisher's summary

Berlin, 1943.

“Where’s your husband?” the SS man demanded.

“There’s no one home,” Margot said. “I’m alone.”

In his eyes was nothing but ice and death—only Margot stood between her beloved husband and the Nazi’s gun.

Margot and her adoring husband, Jochen, are madly in love. But in Nazi Germany, being in love is the most dangerous act of all. A marriage between Margot, a German woman, and Jochen, a Jewish man, is forbidden under Hitler’s tyrannical rule.

Yet when friends cross the street to avoid Margot and her own mother rejects her, she stays loyal to Jochen.

When the Gestapo break into their home and steal their belongings, she remains steadfast. When they are cast into the street, homeless, she doesn’t waver.

When there are whispers of innocent people being deported to death camps, she vows to protect the love of her life.

And when soldiers arrest Jochen, imprisoning him with countless others, Margot will stop at nothing to save him.

Armed solely with love, Margot risks everything to protest outside Gestapo headquarters. Inspired by her courage, soon there are hundreds gathered, shouting, “Release our men! Release our men!”

But defying the Nazis is a death sentence. When Margot comes face-to-face with the SS and their machine guns, weapons pointed straight at her, will she choose to save her own life and sacrifice her husband’s?

Based on a true story, in the face of evil, love is power, courage is infectious—and the voices of many will not be silenced. Fans of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, The Alice Network, and The Lilac Girls will be utterly gripped by this heartbreaking and inspirational tale.

German characters in a very British accent.

It was hard for me to listen to German characters who sounded like they were from England and alway chipper even in difficult situations. Narration is so important in audio books. The story was good, but heroine came off as niave and dramatic. Again that might be because of the narration.

Boring

I had a hard time completing this book. The book lacked any type of excitement or injury. And it sounded like all the main character did was whine. Performance was very flat
