Publisher's summary

He swore he would always protect me, that he would take my darkest secret to the grave. But I’m starting to think he hasn’t told me his....

My husband and I are the dream couple: deeply in love, the envy of all our friends and neighbors. He surprises me with flowers; I make him his favorite meals and prepare picnics to enjoy with our son. It’s little gestures like this that keep our romance alive.

But nobody knows how frightened I am at night. Oliver promises he’ll keep me safe, but I can’t stop feeling like someone from my past is watching me. Coming for me. I could have sworn I saw someone watching me through the window, lurking in the shadows across the street. As I triple check that the doors are locked, and kiss my son good night, I’m terrified that someone knows my unspeakable secret, and that soon everything I love will be taken away....

And when my husband comes home with blood on his hands on the same night our neighbor goes missing, I realize I am not the only one hiding a terrible secret.

We are both lying. But when the truth finally comes to light, who will survive?

Anyone who loves Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train, and Behind Closed Doors will be utterly gripped.

Great narrator.

The use of too many endearments such as darling,
baby at times seeming forced took away from (some) of the seriousness and thrill of the story.

Absolutely no redeeming quality

This was one of the worst audiobooks I have ever listened to.
The characters were vapid, mean and just disgusting individuals. I kept thinking it would get better. It never did. I absolutely would not waste a credit on this piece of garbage.

Excellent story

Great suspense and interesting twists, I really enjoyed this book. I have read other books by this author and they are just as good.

DNF

Narrator sounded like a robot. I could not finish once she thought she could capture her husband by getting pregnant. The narrator was like nails on a chalkboard. The first time in 214 titles I have quit a book because of a narrator... ugh

Really Good . . . but

I really liked this story but the ending was a bit of a stretch. Not in its entirety but it seems that the last twist was thrown in there purposefully as a major plot twist. Unfortunately it came across as flat and so unlikely that it actually took away from the book.

Narration was good.

Okay story but annoying narrator

The story was a bit predictable (although wushu washy main character were a bit infuriating) but still enjoyable, however the narrator has a strange cadence that is distracting and sounds almost robotic and unnatural at times. Tough to lose myself in the story.
