Publisher's summary

Strands of blonde hair escape from beneath the sheet and catch the dawn light creeping through the window. Silence falls as the fabric is drawn back to reveal the body of a young girl, her hands folded on her chest, her long lashes resting on her cold, pale cheeks.

When Detective Casey White finds the body of a teenager perfectly preserved in salt in an abandoned beach vacation home, her heart shatters. Tina Somners has been missing since she set off to meet her friends for spring break. With her own daughter missing too, Casey knows how devastated the girl’s parents will be at this tragic end to their search.

Pushing her pain aside, Casey delves into old files and gets her first lead: Years ago, a man murdered his wife and left her the same way. But he’s been locked up in prison all this time....

Interviewing him, Casey is certain the now frail and elderly prisoner couldn’t have hurt Tina himself. But is he somehow pulling strings from behind bars?

Then another perfectly preserved body is found, a threatening note addressed to Casey herself clutched in the girl’s hand. Running out of time and leads, Casey is hit with a realization that turns her blood to ice: Her own daughter could be next....

An absolutely unpauseable listen that will have you up late into the night and gasping at the shocking twists. Perfect for fans of Kendra Elliot, Robert Dugoni, and Melinda Leigh.

Narrator is over dramatic.

I really try my best to not give a bad review. The book, the story line are you excellent but the narrator is over dramatic.
All through the book I felt like returning it. I hope the next in the series is not narrated by her. Patricia can be such an excellent narrator if she doesn’t try so hard. At least that’s what it seems to me.

Better every time!

Every installment in this series is even better than the last! Excellent storyline with twists that kept me from figuring out the end before it happened! Loved it!

Twisting and Brain testing Galore!

B.R. Spangler pitches a no hitter! Many try to write like her, but few can.

Her stories are varied and never have an obvious killer. Her characters are enjoyable, and I like them more in every installment.

I like Patricia Rodriguez as a narrator, especially for police procedurals lead by strong female protagonists.

The best book in the series so far

There are Many victims in this series who walk zillions of miles until their shoes fall apart. High school often leads to murder. Evil mothers cause serial killers. This time the detective stays busy and doesn’t get so undone by her own emotions. Still there’s TMI when the author insists on detailing scenes where parents hear of the death of their kids and graphic descriptions of the victims suffering.

Beware.

I liked the story and I did finally finish it.
I don’t say this to be cruel but I will never listen to another book read by this narrator.
As soon as I started listening I knew it was a mistake and I thought about returning it.

Mummies, kangaroos and joeys..,

Yes, this book has it all. It starts off with Casey working to get back in shape to return to work…when she discovers a body. Who killed and dumped the teen amidst abandoned houses? This leads to an even more gruesome discovery…mummified bodies inside one of the houses, with riddles in their grips. Bodies rack up but it seems the team can’t catch a break…until they do. Will this end well for the team? Very intriguing story. Let’s not forget the sub plot of Casey’s search for her missing daughter! Looking forward to the next book.

I love her books

I've listened to the series and couldn't wait for this book to come out. I downloaded it the day it was released. This is one of those books you can't put down. I'm excited that the series is continuing.
