Publisher's summary

Missing - Have you seen this girl? Nineteen-year-old Leila Hawkins was last seen on June 24, 1994, when she left her parents’ anniversary party early and ran into the stormy night wearing her twin sister Stella’s long red coat. She was never seen again.

I wrap my arms around the tree trunk, pressing my cheek against it until the bark digs in and the missing poster is finally secured. I try not to look at the photograph on it. At the features so similar to mine. Perhaps this will be the year someone comes forward.

Were crucial mistakes made by detectives from the very beginning?

Could the pressure of living two lives have led my sister to run away - or even end it?

Or did someone in her tight circle of friends and family have reason to want her gone?

Someone out there must know something.

But the last thing I ever expect is a direct response from the person who took Leila. Wracked with guilt and completely alone in the world without the other half of me, I have no choice but to agree to his strange request: private, intimate details of my life in return for answers.

As the final moments of my sister’s life play out before me, I feel closer to her than I ever dreamed I’d be again. So close, it could almost be happening to me. But when I finally realise who is behind this terrifying tragedy, will I make it out alive?

From the best-selling author of The Perfect Friend, this absolutely gripping psychological thriller will keep you up all night and leave you sleeping with the light on. If you loved Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train, and The Wife Between Us, this book is for you!

Her best book yet!

I loved this book! Great mystery with a likeable main character - and a bunch of dogs who (spoiler alert) don't die. Who killed Stella's twin sister 25 years earlier? Or is she alive? I actually cared what had happened to Layna at the end, and that is rare because there have been some duds in my library lately. This is definitely the best of Copperthwaite's books. Excellent narration, too. This one is a definite re-listen!! :)

Way too much minutiae

When I’m listening to a book, see there are still 7 hours left, and start skipping chapters, there are way too many words and not enough action! You can skip ahead to the last 1.5 hours and know the story.

This listen/book keeps you in suspense throughout, always changing your mind as you go. I loved the characters and really enjoyed her dogs, a very big part in the book. The narration was excellent.

Gobbled this one up in two days

Great character development. Really liked the main character, Stella, tough, smart, funny, dog loving.
Good mystery, different from run of the mill stuff I have been listening to. I listen to 2-3 books a week and this one was a refreshing change of pace.
Credit well spent!

OMG!!!!!

A slow burning suspenseful psychological thriller, this story will have you turning the page to find another clue to this mystery until you reach the explosive ending.

The first half of the book is a little slow, but the last half has some major twists. You will want to stay with this story until the end with a gripping and surprising end. The narrator was brilliant.

I like this book a lot!

I really like this book. I had twin brothers, who have died, so there is an emotional connection right there. I am a dog trainer, like the main character. The main character gave me a way to deal with an animal abuse situation. There is even a Bichon Frise in the book! I currently have a Bichon Frise! I really liked this book, the personal connections only adding to the whole experience. I do agree with the criticism that the first half is a little slow, but it's worth it. I absolutely do not agree with the negative "boring" reviews. I'd describe it as a slow build up, NOT boring!

A keep-you-on-edge psychological thriller

The narrator, Katie Villa, skillfully reads this gripping tale. The plot, the word-smithing, and psychological tugs work seamlessly to draw you into the story. I will certainly search for more works by both author and narrator.
