Publisher's summary

How far would you go to protect your happy home?

Sara made one promise to herself when she was growing up in foster care: that if she was lucky enough to have a family, she’d always do whatever it took to protect them. Looking around her home with its cozy kitchen and living room, where her energetic teenage daughters and gorgeous 4-year-old son all eat, play and live together, she knows she’d do anything to keep them safe.

So when Sara’s husband Matt loses his job and every shred of his confidence with it, she knows it’s up to her to bring the family back from the brink. Though she doesn’t know where she can possibly find the money they need to keep afloat.

Until her boss offers her a deal. He’ll help out. All she has to do for him is one little favor...

This year’s most gripping psychological thriller - perfect for fans of My Lovely Wife, The Girl on the Train, and Something in the Water.

Mixed messages

The only reason I was able to complete this book was in hoping things would get better for Sara. Her character disappointing especially I am listening in 2021. Too naive to believable. However the narration was good and gave me pause to keep listening. Thank goodness it turned out as it did or I would surenever listen to this author again.

Begins slow, then an unpredictable plot hooks you!

Well narrated and keeps you guessing! at the beginning of the novel I wouldn't think it would have ended the way it did.

loved it...

Easy read ( listen) good book to keep your mind occupied. Great narration, a few times it was difficult to differentiate between main character and her sister, but overall, not a big deal. I'd recommend. Story did not drone on. started strong, stayed strong. Not earth shattering but I'd still recommend, good beach listen

I can't finish this book ..

Just another domestic "thriller" with a pathetic protagonist making stupid decisions and her "old school" misogynistic husband. I just find impossible to sympathize with such a weak character like Sara.

Slow painful train wreck

It was a very slow book with so many opportunities for the chapters to do the right thing, after awhile they came across as idiots for missing so many red flags. It was very much like the characters were very slowly but inevitably going to end badly.

Didn't Like

Listening to this book was very frustrating. The story was unbelievable and the female main character was totally clueless and wimpy. The narrator did a great job, though.

HORRIBLE

Literally one of the worst books I’ve ever tried listening to I just couldn’t finish. So irritating. What in the world made this author write this book is what I wanna know? But worse who in the world published it??

what kind of a weird marriage is this?

Won't read author again.

Not that is is horribly written, but the storyline - YESH - ick. Only the men have dreams (unless the man dreams of being with the ideal, and rich, man). when hubby gets dumped from his job, he gets to manipulate his wife into giving him her ENTIRE inheritance that not even a part of is legally his! So hub y can piss it all away while she gives up her dreams? then, because she lost HER money, not his, she is scared to tell him? SCARED of standing up to husband. so TIRED of idiotic novels about wives who have less of a spine than a woman seeking an "Mrs' degree in the 1950s!

Disgusting - what decade / century IS this? man manipulates wife to get whatever he wants, she gets NOTHING for herself, unless being a domestic slave is her life-long dream. Stand up, walk out, and don't let the door hit your overly compliant butt on the way out...Next step?

GET A LIFE, stay single if that is the only way you can become a complete human being. This is supposed to be a woman with a business degree - unbelievable story in today's world (btw embezzlement of 10,K isn't a MISDEMEANOR it is a FELONY). Yuck - my 3rd audiobook loser in a row, if not for the ability to exchange, I would cancel my Audible membership!
