Publisher's summary

Tia never harmed anyone. So why does someone want to destroy her?

Tia is walking home with her children, along the lakeside of their quiet, safe town, when she realizes something is wrong with her five-year-old daughter, Rosie. She seems troubled, not at all her usual happy self.

But when Tia finally coaxes Rosie to open up, she wishes she hadn’t. Because her sweet daughter asks a question Tia never thought she’d hear.

"Mummy, why did you kill someone?"

Tia knows how rumors spread around her small town. She just can’t understand who would have shared such a horrible story. Or why.

It can’t have anything to do with what happened. Only her two best friends really remember that….

Tia thought she could trust Fiona and Kelly with her life. They’ve been through so much together. But when she’s sent photos of herself that could tear her whole world apart, she starts to wonder. Someone is determined to punish her. But who? And will her friends stand by her, or will the past destroy all of their lives?

From the million-copy-bestselling author of The Secret Mother and The Perfect Family, this absolutely addictive psychological thriller is guaranteed to make you gasp. If you loved Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train and Big Little Lies this book is for you.

Easy to listen to but not suspenseful or what I would consider a psychological thriller.

I would not recommend this if you
are looking for a great mystery. It’s sweet but not that interesting. It has good parts but I was hoping for more of a thriller.

Great Ending!

I was enthralled from beginning to end . Lots of surprises.
I would have rated 5 stars but I cringe that the F word was used at end. There are other words to use that don’t cause offense.

Naïveté to the max

Come on now, ladies, you couldn’t have been less believable, less interesting, less relatable. I liked nothing about this book and only because I vowed to myself that I would complete anything I started did I get to the silly ending. Look for something else, fellow readers. This was a waste of time. Taking advantage of a young girl is always despicable and impactful to her circle, but to have all the nonsensical events in this book come down to just that was just trite and served no purpose but to tie up the stories in an ugly bow.

Entertaining

Not 5 star material in my opinion but I don't regret listening to this book at all! I think I will take the advice given about THE SECRET MOTHER

intriguing confusion. loved it

4.25⭐️

Fiona is just trying to get by. A bully for a husband and the weight of the world on her shoulders has her down. Now, it seems like someone is out to get her. Someone caused an audit to happen at her business. An audit that could ruin everything.

Sophie has shown up on Kelly's doorstep, needing help from an abusive relationship. They don't know each other. Kelly's boys Ryan and Sonny are curious. As a single mom, Kelly should have been more suspicious.

Tia loves her life. Great kid, great family. She is truly happy until someone starts sending her pictures. Photos that could destroy her life. Photos that would definitely destroy her marriage. Photos of something that she can't remember doing. To top it off, someone at school has told her daughter that she is a murderer! How much can she not remember?

My Thoughts

Wow.... what a confusing, intriguing rollercoaster of a thriller! I was on edge the entire time trying to figure out what in the world was going on and how it was all related.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant 👏

I loved the characters. Fiona, Tia, and Kelly have been best friends their while lives. They know everything about each other. So when bad things start happening to them, they each assume one of the friends is the only person with enough life details to orchestrate it. The way they became suspicious yet clung to each other was incredibly well done.

Kelly was my least favorite FMC. She was incredibly trusting and naive. So much so that she puts herself and her children in trouble. Even when it all comes crashing down, she still can't understand how her actions were responsible. Considering she is a single mom, I spent half her dialog shaking my head.

The book is told through 4 separate timelines. Each of the woman have their own POV plus a past dialog that I never quite did figure out who it belonged to. Very confusing. Pay close attention to who is speaking because they all have ALOT happening to them!

Too unrealistic

I know fiction is fiction…but this was too unbelievable. Things that would probably never happen in real life…such as inviting a perfect stranger into your home and leaving them alone to do as they wish.
