Publisher's summary

Some summers will stay with you forever....

Callie Weaver and best friend Olivia Dixon have finally done it: put their life savings into the beach house they admired through childhood summers, on the dazzling white sand of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. They’re going to buff the salt from its windows, paint its sun-bleached sidings, and open it as a bed and breakfast.

Callie’s too busy to think about her love life, but when she catches the attention of local heartthrob Luke Sullivan, his blue eyes and easy smile make it hard to say no. He’s heir to his father’s property empire, and the papers say he’s just another playboy, but as they laugh in the ocean waves, Callie realizes there’s more to this man than money and good looks.

Just when true happiness seems within reach, Callie and Olivia find a diary full of secrets...secrets that stretch across the island, and have the power to turn lives upside down. As Callie reads, she unravels a mystery that makes her heart drop through the floor.

Will Callie and Luke be pulled apart by the storm it unleashes, or can true love save them?

The Summer House is an absolutely gorgeous, heart-warming summer romance about the importance of family, not keeping secrets, and learning how to open your heart.

Anything by Jenny Hale is great reading.

Narration, story and writing were all great, along with pleasant theme and realistic characters who resolvled issues sensibly.

Pronunciation

Surprised the reader pronounced valet, more than once as she did. She pronounced the “t” and I thought it was silent and the e and t sounded as an “A”.

Great Book

I enjoyed the story very much but I did not enjoy the narrator. Her mispronunciations of multiple words throughout was a little shocking but her attempts to change her voice for the different characters was just plain bad. The breathiness in which she narrated was annoying and as a speech therapist I couldn’t help but think of the damage she will cause to her vocal chords if she continues narrating that way. I would recommend maybe reading the book instead of listening.

The Summer House

I enjoyed this story line that paired a very rich young man with a beautiful young lady who was living within her means. He learned slowly that good clean fun didn't need to cost a lot of money, but rather, could make you feel good about what you were doing.

Distracting narrator, lovely story

While the narrator mispronounced words that took me out of the story, it was with such confidence I wondered if I was wrong about how to pronounce simple words like valet or recollect. Otherwise this story is lovely, if predictable. I was even moved to tears. I’ll definitely read more from this author.

Weak Character

I was disappointed by the main character. She is speaking out of turn all over the place even after promising she won’t tell anyone the big secret and on top of that she is whiny. This could have been a good book but for the major character flaws in the protagonist.

Fun Beach Read

I got this to listen to on a family beach trip to NC and it served its purpose well. Is it groundbreaking? Surprising? Suspenseful? Not really, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s an easy, warm, make you feel good beach romance and that’s what I was looking for this time.

Enjoyable, light romance.

Good beach book. Only thing I found distracting was the narrator’s wet-lipped over-enunciation and strange pronunciations... perhaps slipping into French? Clee-entele instead of clientele, geezer instead of geyser... that one made me laugh out loud. In sum, a fun, light read.

It was okay

I had a hard time keeping interest. Storyline was kind of cheesy. At times, it felt almost like a book for a teenager looking for romance.

The Summer House

I absolutely loved this audiobook. It broke my heart when Freddy gave up his son Luke. But, through all of this they are now all together and Luke is now married to Callie. This was such a wonderful story, the trails and now the resolution. I could not stop listening to this audio, it was truly amazing. Next I’m going to watch the Summer Hideaway. Freddy was sitting beside Edward at the wedding which warmed my heart. They both love Luke, and both are proud of his accomplishments. Absolutely loved it.
