A gripping psychological thriller with edge-of-your-seat suspense

Loving husband? Or total stranger?

When Ella wakes up in a hospital following a hit-and-run incident, she is scared and confused. Close to tears, her eyes fall on a get-well-soon card on the window sill, and the nurse reassures her that her loving husband will be back soon....

But Ella has never been married.

In fact, she has lived alone her whole adult life; working hard, rarely socializing, quietly harboring a terrible secret from her past.

Fear sweeps through Ella when she instantly recognizes the man who enters the ward. He is not her husband, but she knows that she must do as he says and play the part of dutiful wife. What choice does she have? He was there the night of the fire; he knows her secret, too....

Do you absolutely love twisty and unputdownable psychological thrillers like Girl on the Train, The Wife Between Us, and Gone Girl? Then you will be totally hooked by this jaw-dropping novel about the dangerous secrets behind a perfect marriage.

A lot of nail biting build up - then pfuttt

Many dilemmas, intrigue and (literal) head banging in the beat up scenes... and yet the conclusion / finale was short, rushed and felt like an afterthought. I was hooked to the story and (slightly) unrealistic occurrences, only to kick myself for wasting listening time when the ending went down like a small damp lead ballon.

Good story

This was good overall. There were enough clues where you could figure out who Jacob was midway through, but there was also some room for doubt.

Highly Implausible

This entire tale was highly implausible! I also had it figured out (gross!) very early on. Drawn out and disappointing.

Compelling Story

I’m glad I chose this book in spite of negative reviews. I found it to be entertaining without having to skip any parts due to boredom. The narrator did a fine job and all without the excessive language too many books contain today. In my opinion, excessive language shows a lack of class and takes away from the storyline. I’m going to try the author’s suggestion to get “The Reunion”.

Great suspense, original thriller!

I read Until You're Mine by Samantha Hayes a couple years back and enjoyed the twist at the end. I was hoping for similar enjoyment with this one. I actually got more! This story was very original, better than your average domestic thriller where the husband is gaslighting or the babysityer is evil. This plot is very original and fresh. The suspense reminded me of Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris. If you liked that one, you'll definitely like The Liar's Wife. If you found Behind Closed Doors a bjt unbelievable, you still will enioy this read more.

Ella has a lot of secrets and is hiding from her past, which is tragic and sad. This book doesn't shy away from family darkness. She finds herself in the hospital, with someone from her past claiming to be her husband. You don't find out until the end who is who and what is what, but the ride there is fun and thrilling. In the end, there are a couple of doubts, "Why didn't she just...?" and "Would she really allow a child to be in danger to save her own skin?" But if you can be a reader who enjoys the ride and doesn't take everything too seriously, this story is thoroughly enjoyable.

The narration is very good. Pleasant voice, well read. Although I'll throw up in my mouth a little anytime I hear "Ellabella" again. I imagine in that way, readin might be easier than an audiobook. But I'm an Audible addict and this was one of my favorite "reads" this year.

This story dragged on forever it seemed. Once it got into the final parts of the story, it was interesting, but It needed more.
