Summary
They thought they were safe. They were wrong.
The murder of a young prostitute and a baby found abandoned on the same winter night signals the start of a disturbing investigation for Detective Kim Stone - one which brings her face to face with someone from her own horrific childhood.
As more sex workers are murdered in quick succession, each death more violent than the last, Kim and her team realize that the initial killing was no one-off frenzied attack, but a twisted serial killer preying on the vulnerable.
At the same time, the search begins for the desperate woman who left her newborn baby at the station - but what looks like a tragic abandonment turns even more sinister when a case of modern slavery is uncovered.
The two investigations bring the team into a terrifying world of human exploitation and cruelty - and a showdown that puts Kim's life at risk as shocking secrets from her own past come to light.

Dreadful narration
I've managed, just, to listen to a few chapters but the narrator is , in my opinion, awful - surely the author isn't happy to hear her books narrated so badly?
This is the first in the series that I have tried to listen to - the rest I have read - and I am very disappointed with my purchase, does nobody check these Audible books for quality?
This narrator seems to be totally unable to imitate accents consistently or to vary tone or inflection so the characters all sound exactly the same.
Looking forward to reading it since the author is a favourite and I'll have no hesitation giving the book five stars.

Everything I hoped for in a thriller.
I like listening to audio books as I craft, this book made my hands fly through craftwork as the plot unfolded and I edged closer and closer to the edge of my seat. No good as a book for bedtime - too gripping a storyline and I listened to it well into my precious sleep time. I wish Kim had a little romance in her life tho.

Not a disappointment
Book 7, and as good as the others. I feel as if I personally know Kim Stone and her team. Once again the story is well written, quick paced and what I particularly enjoy is set in an area that I know well....What more can I ask for? Can't wait for book 8.

highly recommend
From the first sentence this book had me hooked. I have loved each one of the Kim Stone books and this one must be one of the best. Every time I read a Kim Stone book I think it is the best I've read so far. They have everything you could wish for and Angela Marsons is such a good writer she does not have to fill chapters with unnecessary sex and violence as so many books have today. I can't recommend this book enough

Cannot keep listening!
I love Angela Marsons books and, as a recent fan of audible books, decided to try the latest one via audible. Unfortunately the narration of this is terrible (in my opinion) and I have had to stop listening at Chapter 12!
Will have to purchase the book the normal way but so disappointed at wasting a precious audible purchase!! Can’t comment on the actually quality of the story yet as I can’t listen anymore but I’m hoping it will be as good as all the rest written by Angela Marsons :)

Awful Narration
The story is good, if you can get past the grating, sarcastic and bored tone of the narrator.
Really like this series of books but will not be buying any more of the audiobooks. Just cringing terrible.

Amazing stories which deserve a far better narrator.
Angela Marsons creates fantastic stories and characters. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this series, which is cleverly written and always keeps me guessing. Unfortunately I will be giving up on audio versions of the books and returning to paperbacks as the narrator is truly awful. I’ve tried really hard to persevere but she is absolutely not suited to crime novels. She sounds bored a lot of the time and the accents are appalling. I do not like to leave any kind of negative review but I feel very strongly that people may be dissuaded from listening to these wonderful books because of a poor narrator.
