Summary

Her eyes are wide open. Her lips parted as if to speak. Her dead body frozen in the ice...She is not the only one.

When a young boy discovers the body of a woman beneath a thick sheet of ice in a South London park, Detective Erika Foster is called in to lead the murder investigation.

The victim, a beautiful young socialite, appeared to have the perfect life. Yet when Erika begins to dig deeper, she starts to connect the dots between the murder and the killings of three prostitutes, all found strangled, hands bound, and dumped in water around London.

What dark secrets is the girl in the ice hiding?

As Erika inches closer to uncovering the truth, the killer is closing in on Erika.

The last investigation Erika led went badly wrong...resulting in the death of her husband. With her career hanging by a thread, Erika must now battle her own personal demons as well as a killer more deadly than any she's faced before. But will she get to him before he strikes again?

A pause-resisting thriller packed with suspense. If you like Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, and Karin Slaughter, discover Rob Bryndza's new series today.

superb

Loved this book. It was fast paced and tense. For once didn't know who the culprit was and had me guessing to the end. Fab.

I give it five.

If you could sum up The Girl in the Ice in three words, what would they be?

Exciting, gripping, engrossing.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Has to be DCI Foster, a real heroine. Outwardly hard headed, tough, don't mess with me, But underneath vurnirable and still grieving. I liked the way she stood up for herself, even against the assistant commissioner. ( would that happen in real life?) a flawed character, but none the less determined to get justice for the victims.

Have you listened to any of Jan Cramer’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, but liked what I heard in this audiobook.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

At the end when she finally speaks to her husband

Any additional comments?

This is the first time I have listened / read this author. I will certainly be looking out for more of his work. I am delighted to see this is the first in a series, look forward to following the exploits of DCI Foster in the future

Fantastic

Best book I've listened to for a while, enough twists and turns to be interesting but not too complex for listening where you can't look back in the text.

Gripping

I liked this book because it kept me guessing throughout. Narration was good although sometimes when reading 2 people's sides of a conversation it got confusing with the same accent and voice for the male and female side.
overall a good book and would recommend.

I hope real police are nothing like this!

What did you like best about The Girl in the Ice? What did you like least?

Well this was a curious story. Erika Foster must be the most incompetant Detective in the Met. How on earth did she get to such a senior position. However, tHe story was strangely addictive, and I confess I actually quite enjoyed it. The down side is that it was SO predictable. You just know who the villain is. One or two interesting twists but no great shocks or surprises. The heroine does come over as a bit stupid. Actually she comes across as VERY stupid!

Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Bryndza again?

Yes. If only to see if the character develops any intelligence or whether she remains daft as a brush. If she doesn't improve in the next novel though then it could get quite tedious.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Jan Cramer?

Yes

Was The Girl in the Ice worth the listening time?

Definitely. As I have mentioned it was quite addictive. I can't say why. You know where it is going from fairly early on but it still felt like quite a gripping story. It doesn't take much thinking about so good for the car, dog walking etc.

Contents and storyline excellent. Storyteller not quite suited

For quite a grippy crime novel the narrator was not suited for my taste.
Whist narrating I imagined she was drinking an earl grey tea, with a delicate rose flavoured wafers biscuit and wearing fluffy pink mules.
