About this ebook

You have to stop me from hurting anyone else. I don’t want to do these horrible things. Help me before I’m forced to do it again. And I will do it again because I have no choice. I’ve never had a choice.

In a busy shopping centre, a little girl clutches a teddy bear, clinging to it in the absence of her mother, Katrina. Hours later, Katrina’s body is discovered in an abandoned building. For Detective Kim Stone, it looks like a quick, functional kill. But Kim’s instincts tell her there’s more to this senseless murder than meets the eye. What was the motive for killing a young mother out shopping with her child?

Days later, a second victim is found in a local park, her neck broken just like Katrina’s and her six-year-old son missing.

With her colleague, Detective Stacey Wood, working on another unsolved crime and a member of the team grieving the loss of a close relative, Kim is struggling to make inroads on what is fast becoming a complex case. And when a handwritten letter from the killer lands on Kim’s desk addressed to her, and pleading for help, she knows time is running out to bring the little boy home alive.

With the support of a handwriting analyst and profiler, Kim and the team begin to get inside the mind of the killer and make a shocking discovery.

Some of the victims have scratch marks on their wrists.

But these are no random scratches. The killer is using them to communicate with someone. The question is… with whom?

And if Kim doesn’t find them soon, another innocent soul will die.

The multi-million-copy bestselling Detective Kim Stone series is every bit as addictive, original and exciting as readers say and you’ll be hooked from the very first page. Nobody does it better than the Queen of Crime, Angela Marsons.

Deadly Cry by Angela Marsons is the 13th DI Kim Stone Crime Thriller. This is one series that I recommend reading in order. Each book builds upon the previous one. We get to see the characters develop over the course of the series. I thought Deadly Cry (like all the other novels in this series) is well-written with a quick pace and complex characters. Kim Stone is a woman who lives life on her own terms. I like her relationship with DS Bryant. He is the closest thing to a human friend that Kim has (with her dog being her best friend). Kim Stone is a likeable and relatable woman. She had a troubled youth which is why Kim is the way she is (prickly, distant). We get to learn more about Penn and Stacey in this book. Penn is dealing with the loss of his mother and being responsible for his sixteen-year-old brother, Jasper who has Downes syndrome. Stacey Wood is getting married and she is eager for her big day to arrive. She is considerate of Penn and attempts to temper her excitement. Stacey is a smart, capable woman who has great potential. I like that there is some humor scattered throughout the story. The group is dealing with some rough cases plus personal issues and they need a little levity now and then. The mysteries were multifaceted with twists and turns that I found exciting. I thoroughly enjoyed following this mystery and solving it. It can be solved before the reveal if you pay close attention. There was a good ending that completely wrapped up the cases. I have a feeling change will be coming to our little group soon, and I cannot wait to see what happens next time. Deadly Cry is a fast-paced mystery novel that will keep you riveted until the very end.

The books in this series never disappoint and while there is a running story from book to book, you are never lost if you’ve forgotten a detail or haven’t read the previous book(s). In this installment Kim and her team are tasked with solving the brutal murder of a mother. When a second murder happens just days later and her son is missing, it is all hands on deck. All this happening while one team member works on tracking down new clues in a cold case, another adjusts to new responsibilities from his mother’s death, and a task force preparing security for a model in the headlines for sleeping with a footballer. While that might seem like a lot of story for just one book, Marsons weaves the story together well. And the small details of the team’s personal life are a nice touch. Kim’s dog and Penn’s brother. No one does their job in a bubble and have outside factors that don’t go away. Detective Kim Stone and her team are a well oiled machine that complement each other as they

Wow! ‘Deadly Cry’ is a nail-biting instalment in the Kim Stone series and I loved it. There’s a murderer to catch, a puzzle to solve and a missing child, and that’s just the start. The story later crashes into a shocking denouement that left me open mouthed. I was like... what? No... Ooh... (no spoilers)! I love Stacey’s character and I really enjoyed the chapters where she was investigating the historic rape cases. The team dynamics are brilliant and make for an absolutely addictive read, especially during the tense moments and boy were there some to remember. ‘Deadly Cry’ had them in abundance. The handwriting expert chapters were fascinating and I love how well researched they were. I gained a lot of insight into what happens in that profession so I learned something new - bonus. This book is cleverly plotted, fast moving and a stunning piece of detective fiction. It had me guessing at the why and who throughout and DI Kim Stone is a legend. As a side comment, I love the chapter in which she purchases the bike frame - very witty. If you love a twisty police procedural that once it’s sucked you in, you can’t put it down, then this is your book. Another fantastic addition to Angela Marsons’ series and definitely not one to be missed!
