The Chosen Ones is a gripping, fast-paced, intriguing, suspenseful thriller. It all starts with the body of Jordan Kilby been displayed on a scarecrow frame. Robyn is called out to investigate the murder. When two more murders occur, Robyn and her team realise it is a serial killer they are after. Trying to link the victims together and solve these murders, is not easy work. There is a web of secrets and lies that Robyn must unravel to help her uncover who is behind this. Will Robyn and her team solve this before any more lives are lost? Carol has written a great suspenseful thriller, that will keep you guessing through every chapter. There are so many twists and turns your head is going to be spinning. You will not want to put this book down so be ready for some late nights. I don’t believe it, Carol has left us with a cliff-hanger of an ending again. I do hope the next book in this series is not too far away. I love a good cliff-hanger but I also want to know what happens next. Carol Wyer is up there with some of the best authors when it comes to writing suspenseful thrillers. When I see a new book written by Carol I know that I won’t be disappointed. I do highly recommend this book, and all in the series. This and all of the books in this series can be read as standalones, but I do recommend that you start at the beginning. This is the 5 books in the series to date: #1 Little Lost Girl #2 Secrets of the Dead #3 The Missing Girls #4 The Silent Children #5 The Chosen Ones

DI Carter has another disturbing case to solve as well as dealing with her own issues of finding out if Davies is actually alive. This book is an excellent read and I enjoyed it very much and highly recommend it. The book could be stand alone or as part of the series with good character development this author gives a little more insight into the character lives with each book and an exciting twist at the end with a tinge of sadness makes this book satisfying yet still waiting for more.

4.5 stars The Chosen ones is a compelling, creepy and fast-paced police procedural crime-thriller. Murders are beginning to pile up in Colton, England, and DI Robyn Carter and her team have been working overtime to link clues together. There’s a serial killer on the loose, and Robyn’s superior is threatening to pull her off the case. She’s stepping on toes, irritating influential people, and they’re breathing down her boss’s neck. Why is her superior hampering her investigation? Could he be corrupt? The murders were all different; each one was as brutal as the one prior: a man hanging like a scarecrow, a screwdriver through the head, and a woman run over several times. Unfortunately, these were not the only deaths; there were more. Robyn knew that she was staring at the work of a cold, methodical serial killer. And if her boss were in any way involved with these killings, then she’d have to bring him down as well. If you enjoy police procedurals, check-out The Chosen Ones. It’s a cleverly crafted thriller, with realistic characters, an intriguing plot, natural dialogue and lots of surprises. The only thing I didn’t care for was the mild cliff-hanger at the end. It only involves a minor subplot, but still, I like my readings to end with every loose thread tied up. Thank you, Bookouture and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.
