About this ebook

‘OMG… The whole time I sat on the edge of my more than once crying ‘oh, nooooo!’… really fast paced with an all-consuming air of danger and suspense.’ B for Bookreview, 5 stars

The light fades as she runs for her life, the forest now becoming quieter around her. The only noise she hears is the sound of footsteps following her...

It’s hiking season in Black Rock Falls and the small town in Montana is flooded with visitors. But when a hiker finds a human skull on a deserted trail in the woods that surround the town, Detective Jenna Alton is called in to investigate.

With no missing persons reported, Jenna has no leads. Then her team makes a shocking discovery – the body of another hiker, a young man, tied to a tree and riddled with bullets. Could the two murders be linked?

As more bodies are found, Jenna and her deputy David Kane know that they must venture deep into the forest to find and face the killer. But nothing can prepare them for what awaits them there…

If you love Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter and Rachel Abbott you’ll love this nail-biting thriller from D.K. Hood.

**Each Kane and Alton book can be read as part of the series or as a standalone**

Only in Black Rock Falls will you find a Sheriff who is an ex-DEA Agent in witness protection with a new name and a new face, a Deputy who was a sniper and member of the Special Forces Investigation Command and another who is also the ME. When a hiker finds a human skull in the forest of Black Rock Falls, Detective Jenna Alton and her team investigate ... with surprising results. They find the skull, and numerous scattered bones, as well as the skeleton of what appears to be a man tied to a tree with an arrow between his eyes and riddled with bullets. And those aren't the only bodies they find ..... THE CRYING SEASON can be read as part of the series or easily as a standalone. I highly recommend starting at the very beginning. Not only is it a fascinating story on how the three main characters came together, but their story is woven through an action-packed page-turner. I especially enjoy how the characters relate to each other ... with caring, respect, humor and sometimes a little sarcasm ... but it's the way they go about solving crime in their little town that sets them apart. Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

When a skull is found in Black Rock Falls, Montana during hiking and hunting season, Detective Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane are called in to investigate. Soon, other bodies turn up. As they go out on the hiking trails to solve the mystery, lots of things happen that kept me guessing until the end of the book. This is not my usual genre but I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed the characters of Jenna Alton and David Kane. I have not read any of the previous books in the series but I did not feel like I needed to in order to enjoy this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this very good book.

4.5⭐ The Crying Season is a taut, tightly plotted and thrilling story. That grabs your attention and doesn't let go. As Detectives Kane and Alton take on a killer I did not see coming, and with perfect pacing, twists and an edge of your seat ending D.K. Hood really knocked it out of the park, and has made this series one I can't stop reading. Would recommend.
