She's speeding through a snowstorm. She knows she should slow down, but the horror of what she's just done keeps her foot on the pedal. She glances at the bag on the passenger seat. She wonders if it's all been worth it. Her tires lose traction and the last thing she sees in the tree directly in front of her. Noah Kendall is an English teacher, his wife is a nurse. They have a daughter. He has taken a sabbatical to write a book. The money is tight and his wife is tired of working what seems like all the time, while Noah sits at his desk eyeballing a young woman who lives next door. He and his wife get into an argument because of over-due bills and his obsession with the woman next door. He storms out of the house to take a run ... something to clear his mind and decide what to do. He made one decision ... to follow an off-beaten path ... which will change his life forever. He sees a wrecked car ... he sees a dead woman in the driver's seat ... he sees a bag sitting next to her. What he discovers is that bag is full of money. He makes another decision ... grab the bag and walk away. The woman is dead ... and he needs the money. How he expects his life to change is not what he gets. It's a convoluted story of how crime doesn't pay .... or does it? This is a well-written crime fiction with outstanding characters. From Noah, who really is a good guy who made a mistake, to his suffering wife, to the 911 Operator who lives next door, to the scheming brother in law, to the cop who's having a fling with with neighbor .... they all bring credibility. This is not the first book of this author's that I have read ...and it won't be the last. Full of twists and turns, you never know where this author will take you.
