Rachel Ryder doesn’t understand how her life has changed so completely. When she was younger, heads would turn when she walked into a room. Her children needed her; her husband adored her.

But somehow the years wore that all away. She was so busy raising her children, looking after her parents… She can barely remember the woman she used to be, the one whose husband told her she was out of his league. The woman she is now just does the laundry and makes the dinner, and can walk into a room without anyone knowing she’s there.

She knows that she hated feeling invisible. She knows that she thought: what would it take for you to see me again?

And now she’s worried that she did something terrible. Because she’s sitting in a room, being asked whether she killed someone.

When no-one is watching, you can get away with anything…

Can You See Her? is an utterly compelling and unputdownable psychological thriller, about how far you can push a woman before she will break. Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, A.J. Finn and The Silent Patient.

The story itself makes it unputdownable since page one. Even the language left out a piercing into my soul and touch my every sense. Simply because it was grim and realistic. And believe me, any woman with a motherly heart would felt that with her whole heart, if she has given the book it's chances as the pace slightly slow.

After reading Susie’s last book The Lies We Hide, I didn’t think another book from her would affect me as much as that story did. I could not have been more wrong! For once I am actually lost for words as to how Can You See Her has actually made me feel. This story just took my breath away and has gotten under my skin in a way that I could not have imagined. I am going to say it now that Can You See Her is one of my best books for 2020 and without the month even over yet with a few more books to still read, will also be my book of the month for April! I can’t even rehash the plot of this story and don’t feel I need to as the blurb is very detailed and gives the reader just what is needed to go in with. To be honest, when I see that Susie has a new book coming out, I don’t even read what it is about anymore. I absolutely love going into her work with the plot surrounded in mystery and taking this approach hasn’t let me down yet. Each story that Susie comes up with is always fresh and she just outdoes her previous book each and every time. I really enjoyed how Susie has structured this book. Told mainly from the perspective of Rachel Ryder, her story is spoken to a forensic psychiatrist “Blue Eyes”. The opening paragraph couldn’t set up the tone of the book more perfectly. “There are things I don’t know. But I know people are dead. I know I killed them and I know it all started the day I realised I was invisible”. Reading this again just gives me goosebumps! The other parts of the story are told through police transcripts which I found to be a clever way of doing this and is a point of difference as opposed to how police investigations normally unfold throughout a story. Each of the characters has been expertly developed and each play a pivotal role, but for this review, I need to just focus on Rachel. Oh my goodness what a character she is! I was just blown away and completely in awe of her. The sadness and fragility that emanates from her, jumped off the pages and just consumed me. There were many times that I was overcome with so much emotion, I had to take a break and get myself back under control to be able to continue. It takes a special author to be able to make a fictional character seem so real and Susie has nailed this! Can You See Her is really a thrilling read that will keep you enthralled right from the get-go. The tension and suspense that is built up throughout are second to none, in the lead up to not one but two things I did not see coming! Also, make sure you have the tissues handy… The last eight chapters I actually read through tears as I was overcome with so much emotion. As I mentioned in my last review, Susie you are a bloody superstar and I absolutely adore your work and I look forward to many more books to come from you. It was an absolute pleasure to read and review Can You See Her? which I can not recommend highly enough. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Susie Lynes for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Can You See Her? which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
