The young woman’s mouth is slightly parted, as if waiting to speak. Her body is frozen in ice and her blue eyes stare at the sky, perhaps wanting to look at the stars one last time…

When the body of a woman is found in the frozen Neponset River, just where it meets the sea, Jessie Novak rushes to the scene. She is shocked to see a flash of a familiar silk scarf and realizes that the woman in the ice is Sheila Logan, with whom she worked closely for years at Boston City Hospital. Jessie desperately wants to find out how this young and talented nurse ended up an innocent victim.

Searching through Sheila’s belongings, Jessie realizes she was having an affair with a colleague and may have been pregnant. Jessie’s own mother walked out when she was just a baby—she must use her past demons to track Sheila’s killer. But then Jessie uncovers a cold case; another dedicated nurse strangled with a scarf and thrown into a freezing river.

Jessie is the only one who can see a lethal pattern forming, and she must act fast. But the killer is one step behind her and after a terrifying attack, Jessie knows she’s being warned off the case. With the killer in her sights, Jessie must take the deadliest risk of her life to make sure no more innocent lives are taken…

This utterly addictive novel will keep you up all night! Fans of Lisa Regan, Rachel Abbott and Tess Gerritsen will be totally hooked until the last heart-thumping page.

ER Nurse Jessie Novak is now working part-time at the hospital and part time as a liaison between homicide detectives and the medical examiner When a woman is found in the frozen river, she is devastated to identify the victim as a previous nurse manager that she had worked with for years. Did she drown ... accident .. murder? There are several different story lines to follow in this one. First, the victim having ties to the hospital, especially when Jessie discovers that the victim was involved with a well-know doctor. Jessie also finds connections to a cold case ... another nurse, found in a frozen river. An older woman seems to be following Jessie ... who is she and what does she want? Jessie is being warned off ... he apartment has been broken into .... a purse-snatcher has accosted her ... a car has tried to run her over. And then there's the possibility of a romance for Jessie.. but can he be trusted? Although 2nd in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone. I do recommend reading in order because the characters are stand-out. There's plenty of action, engaging twists and turns, and a breath-taking conclusion. As the author is an experienced nurse herself, I expected a great deal of credibility in handling the medical portion of this book ... I was not disappointed. I was happy to see that medical terminology was explained in language for those who have not been in the medical field. Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

What an intriguing premise. I have to google now if there is such a position in the real world. Boom - right out of the gate we have action. Twists, turns, mystery, intrigue. Loved it all. The reason it wasn't a 5 is Kate. Just so beyond the norm - she didn't fit, stood out, and you knew than something was off. The rest was great. I love seeing how Jessies brain works. As this book is from Jessies point of view you are seeing the clues and putting the pieces together with her. My heart broke with the loss of someone. Sam our detective shows some charming vulnerability and Rufus just knocked it out of the park. Some interesting info come to light that really turns Jessies world upside down and opens so many new possibilities. I did not read book 1 and was still able to enjoy The Frozen Girl without feeling lost. I am definitely curious to see where we go from here. Thank you Bookouture for allowing NetGalley to share this arc with me. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
