About this ebook

I would do anything to protect my family. It’s my fault they’re in danger…

Our vacation house is beautiful. With its pastel-blue walls, the swimming pool outside, the boardwalk stretching down to the shore. My children play in the waves and my husband grills burgers on the deck. It is so peaceful.

But I can’t relax. When I drive to the store, or stroll down the beach, I am always looking over my shoulder, my heart racing. I am looking for him.

The man who nearly destroyed everything, a year ago, because of the secrets I kept.

I swear I didn’t do anything wrong. But no matter how hard my husband tries to pretend, we both know it’s not over.

This vacation was meant to be a chance to heal. Instead, I think it might break us. Because my husband still doesn’t trust me… and I’m not sure I can trust myself.

And when I wake up to find my daughter missing, I know my worst fears have come true…

An absolutely compelling psychological thriller that will make you question how well you know those around you—and how safe you ever are. Fans of The Girl on the Train, Behind Closed Doors and Gillian Flynn will be completely hooked by His Loving Wife.

His Loving Wife is a gripping story that will have you turning pages with fervor. Miranda Smith’s smooth vocabulary builds the tension until it explodes onto the pages. Kate, her husband, Andrew, and their two children, Willow and Noah, are recovering after a horrific event that took place a year ago. Each family member copes with the tragedy in his or her own way, and has developed ways of dealing with the stressors associated with that terrible night. When news of a possible release reaches her, Kate takes Andrew up on his idea for a family vacation. However, after seeing a strange figure following her and finding a mysterious object in a bag from her home-town supermarket, Kate worries that their family is being targeted for another attack. I enjoyed the story. The author switches points-of-view between chapters, but it is still easy to read, and I felt it was necessary to make the plot richer and provide clarity. As a mother, I understood Kate’s actions, and I was on the edge of my seat by the climax of the book. I liked Miranda Smith’s style, and I’m going to read more of her books. I recommend the book for experienced readers, due to suspenseful scenes and some romance.

“Sometimes when you love someone, you lie…” I am a big fan of Miranda Smith’s work and was really excited to get stuck into this one. A thrilling, dark, unsettling and suspenseful tale, this is a really interesting read which explores a subject that I haven’t read a lot of. It really opened my eyes and now I have become quite fascinated with it. Now I hope I have piqued your curiosity and this has you wanting to find out more, as I am deliberately being vague here so as not to spoil it for you. It is one tale that is definitely better going in blind, will have you on the edge of your seat and is Miranda Smith’s best work yet!

We meet Andrew, Kate, Willow, and Noah who were the victims of a home invasion and whose effects are still with them. When the police find out who the intruder was and that he was someone Kate dated in college, her husband raises questions about why Kate never told him that her old college boyfriend had been stalking her and that she was meeting with him before the invasion. Is this the reason he invaded their home? Did he want Kate back? To help with the trauma, a year later the family takes a surprise vacation as they try to forget that night, but no one will ever forget it. We follow the family in the present and months before. Andrew and Kate seem more distant than usual, and the vacation didn't seem to be helping. Andrew is always on his computer talking to his friends and Kate can’t get over the fact that she still thinks the intruder is there at the beach and that Andrew still doesn’t believe that she and the intruder didn’t have an affair. On top of everything, they have to deal with a moody teenager, a son who is timid, and secrets. You can just feel the underlying tension everywhere. Ms. Smith did a great job with having that tension felt. HIS LOVING WIFE has twists, turns, lies, and surprises. The ending is a HUGE surprise. 4/5 This book was given to me by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
