About this ebook

‘I seriously could NOT put this book down! Had me hooked from the beginning to the end… my mind was blown… kept me guessing until the very end.’ Red Head That Reads, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It was just one night away. But now my little girl is missing.

I didn’t want to leave her. But my husband insisted that a weekend away would do me good. I’ve been feeling like someone is watching me, that things in our home aren’t where I left them. He says I need a break. My sister offered to babysit my precious Mabel. She promised me that everything would be fine.

But while we’re away, the phone call comes. Mabel has been taken.

I rush home, a horrible sick feeling flooding my stomach. I climb the stairs to her nursery to find her little cot empty, our home horribly quiet..

The police are interviewing everyone, but nobody knows what happened to Mabel. My sister is distraught, my husband in pieces. But they wanted me to leave my child. How can I trust them?

Someone wants to hurt me. To punish me. Do they know what I’ve done? And how can I find the truth, and bring my darling girl home?

A truly gripping psychological thriller of manipulation and betrayal from bestselling author Jess Ryder. The Night Away will have you hooked until the final devastating revelation. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train or The Woman in the Window.

What everyone is saying about The Night Away:

‘I started this book late on a Friday night and stayed up until I could finish it. This book is unputdownable… The first chapter of this book is one of the creepiest things I have ever read. The Night Away has the reader doing double takes at each turn in this book. There are so many twists that I felt like I had whiplash at the end. Again, unputdownable. I loved this book.’ Goodreads Reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

4.5/5 ⭐ If you think you know what happened, you're wrong. This book was absolutely thrilling. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, new evidence would present itself and I was left questioning my thought process. This story follows a couple, Amber and George, and the kidnapping of their infant daughter, Mabel. Mabel is taken from her cot while Aunt Ruby is babysitting. The overall storyline was fantastic, I really enjoyed being wrong. That's when you know it's a good book. The evidence was revealed and everything slowly pieced together to form the final result. I loved that it kept moving, there were no dull moments throughout the story. I wasn't a huge fan of both Amber and George. However, their characters worked in this role. Ruby was great, I loved her and could feel a great emotional connection with her. Because of the connection with the characters, you care about what happens to them. I would definitely recommend this book.

In some families children have their place: The Responsible One and The Flighty One. Here we have such a family alongside the partners, parents and a child who goes missing while the irresponsible one was in charge of her care. The thing is, there are lots of secrets that each are desperately trying to hide. While the police work tirelessly to find the child, the secrets spill one by one. This is an interesting and engaging read - definitely recommend!

The Night Away is a twisty psychological thriller that is a great book to escape into and forget about what is going on out in the world for a few hours. It is a gripping page turner that captures your attention right off the bat and pulls you into the story. Jess Ryder puts her own spin on a child kidnapping story which sees a well needed night away for couple Amber and George, become their worst nightmare when their seven month old baby girl Mabel is kidnapped whilst in Amber’s sisters care. Why becomes the focus and as the tension and suspense builds up along the way, you think you know where it is all leading, only for Jess Ryder to pull out the rug from underneath you to take it in a completely different direction! I do love when this happens in a book. The only thing I did find, was nearly every character was unlikable. Whether that was intentional or not, I just could not sympathise with Amber and George. Ruby and baby Mabel were the only ones I felt anything for, but in saying all this, each has been well written in their role. The Night Away is a tense psychological thriller where secrets long buried rise to the surface and as each are revealed, brings you closer to the truth. It is a slow build to start, but as you get further along the pace does pick up. This is another great addition to Jess Ryder’s bibliography and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with for her reader’s next.
