About this ebook

The teenage girl in the picture has bright eyes and a smudge of chocolate on her chin. It’s her birthday and she looks self-consciously beautiful in her floral party dress. But nobody has seen this girl’s sweet smile for days. She has vanished without a trace.

Enclosed by endless beaches and crashing waves, the sleepy little island of Martha’s Vineyard is a place where everyone knows each other’s name and locals can leave their front doors unlocked at night without worry. But everything changes the day that Samantha Clayton leaves for an afternoon bike ride along the cliff tops, and never comes home.

Detective Abby Pearce has the difficult job of interviewing the girl’s grieving mother and silent stepfather. But why can’t they answer simple questions about what Samantha was wearing the day she went missing, or who her friends were? Did her family know her at all?

Then a girl’s bright pink shoe is discovered buried on a local beach. What if Samantha is not the first innocent teenager to be taken, but the latest? Another victim is found dead days later, and the terrified residents demand to know what’s happening to their children. But the killer is already planning his next move and more young lives will be taken if Abby doesn’t figure out what secrets this small town is hiding…

An absolutely unputdownable and nail-biting crime thriller that will have you racing through the pages. Perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Kendra Elliot and Gregg Olsen.

Having read and loved Dana Perry’s Jessie Tucker series, I was excited to see that Her Ocean Grave was the start of something new (although I still need more Jessie Tucker Mr Perry..) For this new offering, we have Detective Abby Pearce who I instantly connected with and found to be a great lead. This story and it’s picturesque Martha’s Vineyard setting really pulled me in and had my undivided attention. For the fictional town of Cedar Falls, nothing major ever happens so when Samantha Claymore, the daughter of a wealthy CEO of a cosmetic company disappears, Detective Abby Pearce wastes no time in trying to find the missing teenager. But the more she digs into the case, she gets more than she bargained for. The narrative is told from Abby’s point of view, which I really enjoyed and is the perfect fit for this tale. She is faced with some resistance from some of the team, having returned to Cedar Falls police department after serving in the NYPD, where she steps straight into the role of detective over others. She is a complex character with her own set of demons as we learn of why she left Martha’s Vineyard as a teenager and what prompted her return. Dana Perry’s easy writing style makes for a smooth read, the pace is fast, the build up just enough without it becoming too dragged out, there are some great twists and turns and its outcome is satisfying and all tied up. Her Ocean Grave is a promising start to the series and I am excited to see what the next instalment will have in store for Detective Abby Pearce next.

friction, Massachusetts, abduction, law-enforcement, family-dynamics, detective, suspense, due-diligence, corruption, betrayal, red-herrings, reporter, alcohol-issues, trust-issues***** The publisher's blurb is a really good hook and only a little misleading so I won't go there, and spoilers are just wrong. There is a bit of possible romance, can't be called a procedural for a few reasons but the due diligence seems impeccable. Very well written and the suspense is awesome. I really loved it and had to finish it in one day! I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Bookouture via NetGalley. Thank you!

“Her Ocean Grave” is a well-crafted police procedural with an exciting new character in Detective Abby Pearce. She’s capable. She’s smart. And, like every complex, compelling protagonist, she’s flawed. It’s what makes her relatable. That, and her thirty-five-pound dachshund, Oscar. In Detective Abby Pearce, Dana Perry has not only introduced readers to a thrilling new series but has left us anxiously awaiting the release of book two.
