Digital Publishing Uncovered is an exciting new online event for writers of colour looking to further develop their craft and find out more about the world of digital publishing and writing commercial fiction.

This is an interactive live event that will take place on Thursday 19th September, 14:00 – 18:00 BST. Places are limited to 300 attendees and you must sign up in advance via the form below. This event is free of charge.

14:00 – Welcome (30 minutes)
A welcome to writers and introduction to Bookouture, digital publishing and writing commercial fiction.
14:30 – Seminar I: Hooks and pitches (30 minutes talk, 15 minutes Q&A)
Led by two members of the editorial team, this talk will explain the importance of a strong hook and explore what one might look like. This knowledge will then be used to understand how to write a strong pitch.
15:15 – Seminar II: Writing for a digital commercial audience (30 minutes talk, 15 minutes Q&A)
Led by two members of the editorial team this session will explore how to write for a digital commercial audience and cover topics such as: how to grab readers’ attention, how to write cliff-hanger endings, how to structure your story.

16:15 – Panel I: Imagining new worlds: representation and community in science fiction and fantasy (30 minutes panel discussion, 15 minutes Q&A)
Science fiction and fantasy stories transport readers to new worlds of adventure and danger. But imagined cultures and conflicts can also hold up a mirror to our own world, expanding and changing our perspectives. Join our Second Sky team as they discuss creativity, storytelling, and writing careers in a genre with limitless possibilities.
17:00 – Panel II: From idea to published author (30 minutes panel discussion, 15 minutes Q&A)
This panel led by a member of our publicity team will spotlight multiple Bookouture authors and explore their journey to become a published author, what working with Bookouture is like, and what to expect at each stage of the publishing process.
