A perfect family holiday… or the perfect revenge?

I take a deep breath as I pull up to the glass-fronted lodge my ex-mother-in-law, Angela, has booked for her birthday. I didn’t want to come on holiday with my ex-husband and his new wife, but she insisted that me and my children play happy families. It isn’t exactly my idea of fun, but Angela has always been kind to me, and the kids are happy. I try to ignore the snow clouds gathering above. The last thing I want is to be trapped here.

As soon as Scott and Danni enter the lodge, everything changes. She tries hard to show her marriage is perfect, but as she downs another glass of wine, Scott’s fixed smile cracks and I recognise his look of disgust. It’s one I know far too well.

Angela always told me I was the perfect daughter-in-law, and I can’t help but feel satisfied as I see the frostiness between her and Danni. If only Danni would leave, maybe this would be the birthday Angela always wanted…

Someone has been killed. And they think we know something.
