1921: Mabel Canning, leader of the London Ladies’ Murder Club, is known for her level-headed common sense. So when she goes to a séance at a medium’s magnificent mansion, she’s only there to support sweet Mrs Plomley who wants to speak with her husband after he died in a fire. Mabel may be intrigued, but is she expecting voices from beyond? Definitely not.

But then Mr Plomley speaks, and the chandelier comes crashing down, plunging the room into inky darkness.
