Bookouture sign new contracts with Matthews and Petch

Bookouture are delighted to announce that we have signed new contracts with historical fiction authors Imogen Matthews and Angela Petch.

Imogen Matthews

Commissioning Editor Nina Winters has acquired World All Language rights and audio rights for two sweeping Dutch set World War II novels from Imogen Matthews, author of The Hidden Village and The Girl Across the Wire Fence. The first book is inspired by the incredible true story of Jewish photographer Rudolf Breslauer who became the official photographer of the Westerbork transit camp. The second book, which will be Book 4 in the Dutch Girls series, is inspired by Trix Terwindt, a flight attendant who became the first Dutch resistance fighter working for MI9.

Nina says,

‘Imogen’s books have a special place in my heart and I was over the moon to receive these brilliant new ideas from her. Imogen’s books are always epic, moving, suspenseful and heartbreaking and I have no doubt these new books have her readers completely engrossed.

Imogen says,

‘I’m delighted to be working with the brilliant Bookouture team on another two new novels set in wartime Holland, bringing the total to nine! I couldn’t ask for a more supportive editor in Nina who shares my desire to bring little-known Dutch stories to life through fiction.

We are also thrilled to announce that Publishing Director Ellen Gleeson signed the 1-book deal for World All Languages, including audio and Film & TV, direct with USA Today bestselling author Angela Petch. The novel, set to publish in autumn 2025, tells the story of a secret garden at an Italian castle in Tuscany that becomes a vital location for the Italian resistance.

Ellen says,

‘Working with the incredibly talented Angela Petch is an absolute joy. Her books are suffused with raw emotion, stunning description and rich, vivid historical detail: all because of Angela’s passion for Italy, her meticulous research and her dedication to telling untold stories. I can’t wait to get her next book into readers’ hands.

Angela says,

‘I am so grateful and excited that Bookouture has contracted me for another historical fiction story set in my beloved Italy. I continue to be inspired by the rich history and beauty of this country where I live half the year and can’t wait to submit another story to my editor, Ellen Gleeson. Being in the hands of the Bookouture team is like being part of a caring, nurturing family.
