Bookouture sign compelling historical novel from Suzette D. Harrison

We are delighted to announce that Commissioning Editor Emily Gowers has acquired world all language rights, including audio and film and TV for a compelling historical novel from Suzette D. Harrison. Publishing in February 2021, The Girl at the Back of the Bus is a stunning dual-timeline novel beginning in 1950s Alabama, about how one woman’s life changes after witnessing Rosa Parks’ historic act of civil disobedience.

Emily says,

‘Suzette can barely write an email without making me tear up, so you can all just imagine how proud and excited I am to be working with her on this novel. Her writing is so warm, moving and completely heartfelt, and I cannot wait to share this beautiful story with the world.’

Suzette says,

‘I’m thrilled to have been approached by Bookouture for this bespoke project. Working with Emily is so refreshing. She listens. She validates. She discusses rather than dictates, and leaves me feeling as if this is a partnership. A lover of African American history, the story itself has become near and dear to me. I’ve literally experienced tearful moments while writing, and I can’t wait for readers to dive into this dual timeline work of fiction.’
