Bookouture celebrates growth and presents expansion plans at agent breakfast
Bookouture celebrated a second consecutive year of significant double-digit sales growth in 2024, as the team presented key achievements and growth plans to agents at Hachette’s Carmelite House office this week.
Highlights presented included:
- Bookouture now has an in-house UK print sales team, with approximately 25-30 titles a year having full trade print distribution. (This is a change from the previous arrangement whereby a small number of titles was distributed in print by Little, Brown.)
- The success of Freida McFadden’s Housemaid trilogy: 6 million unit sales across all formats, over 1 billion Kindle Unlimited pages read, Sunday Times and New York Times top ten bestseller, Amazon.com’s number 1 bestselling ebook of 2023, translation rights sold in more than 40 languages, a major film in production starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried.
- The significant growth of Bookouture’s SFF imprint Second Sky, led this year by BookTok sensation Phantasma by Kaylie Smith. 100,000 copies now sold across all formats, a Kindle top 3 bestseller and USA Today bestseller. The Second Sky team will be expanding in January 2025 with the hire of a new commissioning editor.
- The huge success of Bookouture’s translation publishing programme, which has now published over 250 titles in three years across Germany, Italy and France. 60% of these titles have been Kindle top 100 bestsellers, and the list as a whole now has more than 900 million Kindle Unlimited page reads.
- The forthcoming launch in 2025 of a paid online training platform for authors with a core focus on writing commercial fiction for a digital audience.
