Bookouture acquires historical novel by author Florence Ọlájídé
We are delighted to announce that Bookouture has acquired a historical novel by Florence Ọlájídé.
WAL plus audio rights were acquired by Bookouture for the novel written by Florence, author of the powerful memoir Coconut, which was featured on the Graham Norton Bookclub.
Ọlájídé’s first historical novel, The Stolen Daughter, is set in the 19th century Yoruba Kingdom, where a young girl named Ṣìkẹ́mi is taken and separated from her family by slave raiders and sold into the household of the powerful local slave trader Madam Tinúbú. It will be published in late May 2024.
Commissioning Editor Nina Winters says,
‘I am in awe of Florence’s ability to craft a brilliant plot as well as an incredibly evocative setting. When I read The Stolen Daughter for the first time I truly felt like I was right there with Ṣìkẹ́mi, who is a powerful young woman with a strong will and iron determination to find her family no matter what the cost. The book is gripping, heart-breaking, and incredibly suspenseful and will have fans of historical fiction gripped from start to finish.’
Florence says,
‘I am delighted to continue my literary journey with the wonderful team at Bookouture and it’s been an exciting time tapping into my cultural heritage to highlight this period in African history.’
