Bookouture acquire multi-million copy bestseller J M Dalgliesh and announce another record-breaking year
We are thrilled to announce that we have signed self-published multi-million copy bestseller J M Dalgliesh, one of the UK’s most read crime authors, for four thrillers. Commissioning Editor Rhianna Louise acquired World All Language, Audio, Film & TV rights direct from the author, and the books will be published in 2024 and 2025.
Over two million copies of Dalgliesh’s books have been sold globally with multiple Kindle number 1 bestsellers among them, as well as an incredible 586 million Kindle Unlimited pages read.

The J M Dalgliesh announcement is the latest among several significant acquisitions of multi million copy bestselling self-published authors who have come to Bookouture in the last year, following J.D. Kirk and Daniel Hurst, the latter of whom had a number 1 bestseller, The Doctor’s Wife, published by Bookouture earlier this year.
2023 has been another year of unprecedented growth for Bookouture, as the digital publisher announces significant double-digit growth across all formats: eBook, print and audio, beating even its previous record-breaking year of 2022. Bookouture has also now surpassed 70 million unit sales and over 5 billion Kindle Unlimited pages read.
In addition to record-breaking sales, in 2023 the company has seen significant sales growth in their translation publishing. Bookouture Deutschland has now published 120 titles, over 50 of which have been Kindle bestsellers, launched a small Italian list in 2023 and will be launching a French publishing list in 2024. In tandem with this, their rights team has also seen marked growth, with Rights Director Richard King winning Rights Professional of The Year at the Nibbies.
